We woke up at 7:30 am to get a ride with Augustine to the bus station in San Martin and got on the 8:35 bus to Mexico City. We had some traffic once we hit the city, but we allowed plenty of time just in case.
Since we had a couple of hours to spare, we got an Uber and headed to the Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México to explore. We were dropped off on a street in front of the library, a few blocks from the National Palace. We went to Chilis for lunch first as we didn’t have breakfast, and then started the walk.
It was crowded with people as we walked toward the Palace and the large Mexican flag, we found a few churches, and we went in to check them out. Compared to all the other Churches we found they were a little simple, but still beautiful to look at.
Once at the National Palace, we walked the square, and checked out the area, all while holding on tight to our phones, as we had been warned by the Uber drivers that tourists get their phones taken right out of their hands.
It was 1:20 and we needed to be heading back to the airport by 1:30, but we saw one more church and walked another two blocks to see it. We realized that all the streets were one way and it might be tough for an Uber to find us, so we started walking back to where we were dropped off, and it was a long walk.
As we got close, we ordered an Uber and as we waited for the light to change, we noticed there were no cars driving down the street. We both thought that was weird, but oh well. As we got to the other side of the street, the Uber canceled, but another driver picked it up. We started walking down the street to meet the car when we saw protesters with a banner across the street and cars at a standstill in every direction.
Cas called the driver who was stuck in the middle of all this and we walked to him, got it in, and waited as the clock hit 2:00. Our driver did great and found an alley through the park to get us out and on our way.
We arrived at the airport, went through security, and headed right for the gate, which had already started to board. Once on the plane We watched Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 and took a few naps before our layover in Salt Lake City.
Once in SLC we went through customs and had time for dinner (Panera), then onto the flight to Spokane where we landed at 10:20 pm, and collected our luggage and headed for home.
